Local lad Dylan running marathon in memory of brother Brad

Tragically, in August 2014, Brad Campbell was killed locally in a road traffic collision.

Brad's younger brother, Dylan, is running the Helsinki Marathon on Monday 24th August this year, which will mark the 10 year anniversary of Brad's death.

We caught up with Dylan to find out a bit more about his marathon training, his motivation to raise funds for Diabetes Isle of Man, and his much missed brother 💙

'I’ve always had the idea of running a marathon and raising money in Brad’s memory.'

How’s your training going? Good, very tough though!

Why have you chosen Diabetes Isle of Man as your charity to raise funds for? Brad had type 1 diabetes, and the charity helped my brother a lot, after his diagnosis in Cyprus in 2009.

How old were you when Brad was diagnosed with diabetes? I was 10 and Brad was 12. Being in Cyprus at the time, their methods weren’t as advanced as at home, so initially it was very tough for Brad and us to take.

Can you tell us a bit more about Brad? Brad was funny with a memorable, cheeky smile. He loved playing football and his playstation with his mates, and was always including me as his little brother.

What do you remember about him living with diabetes? Before the days of insulin pumps, I remember Brad injecting insulin daily. Brad never experienced the automatic blood readers (CGM) so I remember squirming as he pricked his finger to take blood.

How much are you hoping to raise? I am hoping to raise £1,000.

'My biggest fear was people forgetting about my brother, so I hope by doing this his memory will live on. Any donation is greatly appreciated.'
